COVID-19 Protocols for the 2021 – 2022 School Year

Dear CLA Families,

As Christian Life Academy continues to navigate through effectively and efficiently running a Christian school of excellence amidst a pandemic, the school’s leadership team remains committed to making prayerful, informed decisions that:

  • keep our community safe,
  • consider the scientific data and parental feedback,
  • empower parents to make decisions that are in the best interest of their child(ren),
  • teach personal responsibility to our students,
  • and provide opportunities for our students to thrive spiritually, academically, and physically.

God was faithful to CLA last year and we believe He will continue to be faithful in the 2021 – 2022 school year. Last year, we were able to resume full, in-person learning in the fall and to remain in person all year long, with only a brief whole school closure and one classroom closure. All praise belongs to God!

We are thankful for the family environment at CLA, an environment in which we all look out for one another, sometimes inconveniencing ourselves for the best interest of others. Our parents went above and beyond the call of duty, keeping their kids home when they were under the weather, even with mild cold symptoms, for the benefit of the CLA community.

For the 2021 – 2022 school year, our COVID-19 protocols are as follows:

  1. Face Coverings
  • In compliance with Governor Lamont’s mask mandates, and the town of Brookfield, all students and staff in grades 1 through 8 will be required to wear a face covering while entering and exiting the building and in all common areas where social distancing may be challenging (i.e. the hallways). However, all students and staff in grades 1 through 8 will have the option of removing their face covering when seated at their desk, in their cohort. We will continually monitor the situation and amend our face covering protocol as needed throughout the school year.
  • For our Little Blessings staff, preschool staff and students, and kindergarten staff and students, face coverings will still be required, per guidance from the Office of Early Childhood (OEC) and in compliance with our state license, at all times when indoors, regardless of vaccination status. Staff and students will be permitted to take “mask breaks” as needed throughout the day and will not be required to wear a face covering when eating, napping, or outdoors.
  1. Proactive Measures: All staff will remain vigilant in disinfecting high touch surfaces throughout the school day, water fountains will remain closed, hot lunches will be individually packaged, and students will continue to eat with their cohort. Staff will continue to teach and encourage our students to wash their hands frequently, and hand sanitizer will be available in each classroom for staff and student use. Additionally, parents and visitors to the campus, during school hours, will be required to wear face coverings at this time.
  1. Health Screenings: Our school nurse will continue to take random temperature checks and parents are encouraged to keep their child home if they are feeling under the weather or have a fever. All students with a fever of 100.0℉ or higher will be required to remain at home until they are fever free (without the use of fever-reducing medication) for 24 hours. Parents are also encouraged to continue to use our COVID Symptom Checklist when determining whether or not to send their child to school each day. See below.

COVID Symptom Checklist

Please go through this checklist with your child each morning BEFORE coming to school. Please do not bring your child to school if they are exhibiting any of the following symptoms:

  • Currently experiencing a fever (100.0 or greater)
  • Experiencing cough, shortness of breath (not related to a known medical condition discussed with your provider)
  • Chills
  • Headache
  • Malaise/fatigue
  • Muscle aches
  • Loss of appetite
  • Loss of taste/smell
  • Sore throat
  • Vomiting
  1. Response to Cases: If a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, they will be required to quarantine for a minimum of 10 days and may return to campus after their quarantine period if they have been fever free for a minimum of 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications. (Any staff or students in contact with the individual that tested positive will be notified and may be required to quarantine for a minimum of 10 days.) If a student is absent due to a COVID-19 related illness or quarantine period, they will be provided with an opportunity to continue learning from home.

The leadership team at CLA will continue to monitor the situation as we move forward in fulfilling our mission of partnering with families in preparing students for a successful, God-honoring life by providing a vibrant, Christ-centered education of excellence.
